Métis Elder Abuse Awareness Program

The Métis Elder Abuse Awareness program is going to bring awareness of Elder abuse to our Métis communities, as well as make connections with the service providers and frontline workers on Métis specific issues and concerns, and to empower our Métis Elders with education and knowledge.

Our Goals and Objectives

Our main objective is to raise awareness of elder abuse in 30 communities with an expectation of reaching 1,500 seniors, individuals and to make connections with 200 service providers and/or frontline workers across Alberta. Training Workshops will be conducted with those service providers who wish to participate using culturally sensitive information.

Focus Groups will be held in 15 communities to gather information from the Elders and community members, about what they feel should be a part of the program, the information collected will be the beginning ground work for this program. Our overall expected outcome will be an Increased Awareness of Elder Abuse in all 30 communities in Alberta. Elders will be empowered and will be able to make decisions about how to address Elder abuse in their community.

Our expected results will be a toolkit consisting of a video and a handbook with valuable culturally sensitive information and resources for Elders, individuals and service providers, both in English and in Cree.
